چکیده

Methods Pre-EuroAmerican settlement fire regimes (i.e. frequency, return interval, extent, season) were reconstructed in eight contiguous watersheds for a 200-year period (1650–1850) from fire scars preserved in the annual growth rings of nineteenth century cut stumps and recently dead pre-settlement Jeffrey pine trees. Superposed epoch analysis (SEA) and correlation analysis were used to examine relationships between tree ring-based reconstructions of the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and pre-EuroAmerican fire regimes in order to assess the influence of drought and equatorial and north Pacific teleconnections on fire occurrence and fire extent.

CHAPTER THREE AIR QUALITY Steven

Introduction Lake Tahoe resides in a high elevation basin separated from the Sacramento Valley by the dominant Sierra Nevada divide along the Crystal Range. Lower ridges of the Carson Range to the east separate the lake from the Great Basin. These physical attributes define atmospheric processes in the Tahoe basin as much as define hydrological processes. The presence of the cold lake at the bo...

The Future of Biodiversity in the Sierra Nevada through the Lake Tahoe Basin Looking Glass 1

The Sierra Nevada’s biological distinction and diversity are almost as legendary as its spectacular peaks and beautiful granite landscapes. The Sierra Nevada is recognized as a zoogeographic region on the basis of the coincidence of species ranges (for example, Udvardy 1969, 1975; Welsh 1994). Udvardy (1969) defined the Sierra Nevada bioregion as bounded by the Great Basin to the north and east...
